They have a huge population and far reaching interests throughout the world, but slowly and surely we will subvert them into a free health care system and then; ahhh what the heck; there are just more of them and when you belong to that size of population and use an American based service such as this one it's not unreasonable to assume your interchanging with U.S.A. nationals.

Funny that. We Australians are bombarded with American search results for any Web searching too. That is of course unless you click on the AUSTRALIA ONLY dot. Not really an answer sorry. I feel the same. Bombarded by our distant neighbours. Luckily, the Americans have goodies that are not available here in our humble corner of the world. It would be nice to tailor the net to each individual country to make surfing a little less confusing.

How about...most Americans are very helpful people. they give you the benefit of their wisdom and their experience as it is - based on where they are. If you want people to be aware that you're not fromt eh US, say "I'm not from the US". won't stop you getting Americo-centric answers, because, as I might have mentioned, most Americans are very helpful people. But you can't diss them for what you call "assuming everyone else is from America too" - they don't do that, they just tell you what they know from where they stand. I'm from London by the way.

Hmmmm. I'm an American and I must admit I am very guilty of making that mistake. I quite often assume everyone else is American when I'm communicating with others. Maybe it is because we forget temporarily how far reaching an instrument we are using. I humbly apologize for myself when I do this to anyone.

SOME of your answers here are just uncalled for...

I am American and I do not assume everyone here is the same.

I did assume we are all human and have respect for all people. Boy! was I fooled.

Being a Southern lady I am mindful of others. It hurts me to hurt someone's feelings.

I think it is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL that we live in the age we can contact the World.

MAYbe we can make a difference, our governments haven't been able to for eons...

now, some of you answer my questions.........

You must remember that we just very assumptive. I thought only Americans residing in France were responding to Yahoo Answers.

PS Maybe this should be called Yahoo Answers International!

Because we don't travel as much and we don't really bother to learn languages other than English (and it's debatable if we even speak English that well). Most Americans don't bother to know what's happening in the world beyond our borders unless it's really big, and even then it doesn't last in the psyche of the average American very long. For this I am very sorry, and can see why Americans are not loved as much as we think we are all over the world. Please forgive my ignorant fellow country-people.

Because in theory you're using the wrong Yahoo!. Yahoo has different versions of Yahoo! based on which country you are from. For instance, if you are in the UK you can go to www.yahoo.co.uk, etc...

So its reasonable to assume that those who are involved in yahoo, as in www.yahoo.com, and its subsequent services, are most likely American.

It is called ethnocentrism or imperialism.

For the same reason that when you ask a US citizen what country he is from, he will answer: "from America"! What country in America? There are more than 35 countries in America.

I realize you speak English but since all the answers are in English and aren't filled with words like "mum" or "mate" it sounds American.

Also because everybody does such a good job of writing in English (even if it's not their first language). When I listen to foreigners their English is not so good.

Don't hate me please.

They're comfortable doing so. For such a large nation they're quite insular (not necessarily egotistical, mind you).

BTW You might (not) be from Melbourne (but) thanks for a FANTASTIC Commonwealth Games. A pom

americans (myself included) are so full of ourselves. we think of ourselves as the greatest in the world. so we are very full of ourselves. so we asume that most people we talk to on here are like us, american. sorry that americans are like that.

I am fully aware that this is global, it would be silly to think everyone is from my country.
