it's human nature. just like the fact that people can see faults in other people but not in themselves. i know smokers that are bothered by the smoke of other people, but not their own. stupid isn't it.

Basically there is no fear of the unknown when it is your own. It also goes along the same lines why a good number of people don't wash their hands after they use the restroom.



Humans are the only animals with disgust - it's genetic and learned. It is a reaction that has been beneficial to our health and this genetic behavior has helped those with it to procreate their genes more.

Because our bodies and senses aren't triggered by our own filth, plus it's easier to see someone else's than to admit to one's own..
